Over the past few weeks, I have been working on how best to disperse the scientific data I have with as many people as possible in the most effective way, as well as getting this blog up and running. I have decided to deposit all of my methods and data, in real-time, on Zenodo. This great platform, operated by the CERN Data Centre, allows scientists to share data and findings as well as to preserve them online.
My first Zenodo post can be found here. Please feel free to get in touch and tell me what you think. The uploaded document details some preliminary experiments I have completed on the limited proteolysis of huntingtin, a project which I hope will yield some interesting structural data soon or at least shed some light on part of the domain organisation of this protein.
The point of doing these experiments is that understanding the structural organisation of the huntingtin protein should improve our knowledge of the function of the protein which in turn may inform better therapeutic strategies for HD treatment. That’s the idea anyway! More on structure-function relationships of proteins coming shortly.
I was lucky enough for this work to be provided with huntingtin protein sample from Stefan Kochanek and Bin Huang, both of Ulm University. Also funded by the CHDI, they published last year a new method of scalable huntingtin protein production. A big thanks to Stefan and Huang for their support in this project.
Looking forward to more experiments and more updates for everyone, watch this space.
This is fantastic what your doing! This I believe is the future of making progress by leveraging all of humanity.
Thanks Shaune! This project is still very fluid so feel free to get in touch if you have any comments or suggestions. Thanks again for your support.
This is tremendous. I hope to create a website that will allow researchers to combine their efforts to explore issues related to democratic governance. Actually, this would probably involve multiple websites, since there are so many dimensions to that topic.
Thanks for your message and support Jesse. Best of luck with your own website plans.
That’s really inspiring and makes us(like me!) to follow the same way in their own work. Hell yeah! This is interesting and gonna start them here. I hope this interface would bring down the hurdles in near future.
Thanks
Thanks! Absolutely, we hope this will make our work more effective and efficient but we need to study this project to ensure that is really the case. Let’s see what happens.
Just saw this highlighted on Vox.com (via a friend’s Facebook share) and I’m really interested in how it goes. My colleagues and I have been discussing different publishing methods recently and I like this idea. It’s great that your employer is fully supportive. Good luck!
Great! As I’ve mentioned before, we are keen to study this project to see whether this method of open science really does work, we hope so, but some data behind us would be the icing on the cake.
I think tis iss one of the moost important info for me.
And i aam glad reading your article. But shouuld remark on few general things, The webb site style is wonderful, the articles is really nice : D.
Good job, cheers
